potential costs. investigators believe that it may have started because cl othes were too close to a furnace in the basement. she managed to rescue her son by tossing the child out the window. the two-month old is ok and she did not want to talk on camera, and understandably so. and neighbors showed us these photos of the victims. batman's name is carol stuart -- is carol stuart iii. she managed to jump to safety from a second-floor window. her sister barbara hopkins says

that nancy was the primary care giver of the children and she believes she died trying to save lives. she lost her son. family members say a 7-year-old also perished in the fire. fire officials say the victims were found on the second floor in a back bedroom. >> you could see the fire coming out of the window. and they were trying to get them out the best they can, but it was rolling. >> two firefighters were badly hurt during the inferno. 1 fell through the basement and landed on top of another firefighter. both were taken to the burn center with non life-threatening issues -- injuries. fire officials say there is no evidence to support arson. wbal-tv 11 news.

>> meanwhile, three more city firefighters are recovering from injuries they sustained from this fire. this is what the home looks like now in southeast baltimore. we're told all the firefighters are in stable condition, dealing with burns to hands and faces. the fire broke out in the basement of the home. no word on what started the fire. >> and an investigation into a fire in edgewood. is broke out along the 200 block of canard avenue. crews were able to rescue the one person inside that building. no word on their condition tonight. investigators are searching for a cause and an origin. meanwhile, investigators do know the cause of the fire that raged through this church in potomac heights.

failing grade for bookkeeping. it reveals a pattern of overtime and overpayment to employees and contractors. >> the mayor has called on the school and the school board members to fix the problem. tim tooten joins us. where is the problem? >> there are no easy answers for a school system that is already- strapped. this audit comes as no surprise. school officials do agree there is lots of room for improvement. the audit covers years 2009 and 2010. and appears the but stopped at central office -- the buck stopped at central office. in one case, an employee was given a leave payment, twice. >> when we looked at over time,

we saw a number of discrepanc ies where payments being made could not be supported by the record and supervisors could not explain why it there were those discrepancies. >> and the school system has done a poor job of that collection. they found that the district was owed more than $4 million for accounts past due more than 60 days. >> they have to establish better collection policies to make sure amounts that are owed are being paid to. especially for employees who have not fulfilled certain work commitments they are responsible for. >> the school system also could not account for more than 1200 computers, which included at least 32 laptops. the district was also criticized for wasting money on on used school buildings. since then, the school has completed an independent facilities audit. the city school ceo responded to
